Join the Team: N8 CIR Research Data Management Theme Lead

N8 CIR is seeking an RDM Theme Lead to bring together RDM professionals from across the N8 Research Partnership to continue building a strong and inclusive community that shares expertise, develops good practice and creates opportunities for collaboration.

Research Data Management (RDM) is fundamental to effective, responsible research, and the professionals who support it play an increasingly important role across the N8 partnership.

The Theme Lead will act as a focal point for RDM activity across N8 CIR, working with colleagues from across the N8 Partnership Universities (Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York) and the wider research and RDM community.

What will the role involve?

The successful applicant will:

  • Lead and facilitate a community of RDM professionals across the N8.
  • Help organise meetings, workshops, seminars and community-building activities.
  • Bring together RDM leads to explore shared challenges, opportunities and good practice.
  • Continue to develop the N8 CIR Data Stewards Network and connect it with related initiatives.
  • Identify and share training, opportunities and examples of good practice.
  • Co-organise activities including the annual Digital Research Infrastructure Professionals Retreat.
  • Work with other N8 CIR theme leads to identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of N8 CIR through membership of the Directors Group.

The role builds on N8 CIR's ambition to create active communities of researchers and research-support professionals who can share expertise, develop digital skills and collaborate across institutional boundaries.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and effective community leader who can connect people across institutions and help develop a shared programme of RDM activity.

Applicants must currently be based at an N8 university (Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield or York) and employed on a fixed term contract until 31st July 2028.

The role is 0.2 FTE and may suit someone who is not currently employed at 1.0 FTE, or where time can be bought out from their existing role. The role will commence as soon as convenient from appointment and there is the possibility of an extension beyond 31 July 2028.

Interested?

Applicants should send a covering letter and a 2-page CV to matt.probert@york.ac.uk, with the subject ‘N8 CIR RDM Theme Lead Application’ by Friday 27 November. Interviews are expected to take place online, probably on the morning of Wednesday 9 December.
