N8 CIR Meet-ups - RSE Career Progression

Career progression can be a challenge for Research Software Engineers, and most of the Universities within the N8 have different protocols for promotion and career progression.

Online Delivery
4 Jun 2020 3 p.m. — 4 p.m.

In this session Mark Turner (University of Newcastle) will explain the work they have done with Human Resources departments to set roles and responsibilities for each job grade from new RSEs to group leaders.

He will be joined by Mark Woodbridge, RSE Team Lead, Imperial College London.

Mark joined Imperial in September 2017 to establish a central Research Software Engineering service at the College. He now leads a team of RSEs within the ICT department at Imperial and is routinely involved in recruitment for other positions in the College’s Research Computing Service. In addition to several other software development roles in academia and industry he has also been co-founder and CTO of a startup and has a strong interest in career progression within Research Software Engineering.

There will also be feedback from senior RSEs who have sat on interview panels.

This event is intended for those working or studying at one of the N8 Universities, however a small number of places are available to those from other institutions. Please let us know where you work or study on the Eventbrite order form.
