N8 CIR pushes for diversity in High Performance Computing
The N8 Centre of Excellence in Computationally Intensive Research (N8 CIR) has officially been recognised as a chapter of Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC), the organisation at the vanguard of promoting women in the HPC community across academia and industry.
Research Data Management
Research data management is a vital component of modern research practices. Our research data management network was formed towards the end of 2020 to help build a community and raise awareness of best practice.
Research Software Engineering
One of the key goals of N8 CIR is to ensure that researchers are able to develop the skills they need to access high performance computing (HPC) and embed it in their work.
Job Vacancy - N8 CIR RIE Theme Leader
The N8 CIR is establishing a community of professional IT staff who are focused on specialist infrastructure in support of research — research infrastructure engineers (RIEs). We are recruiting an RIE Theme Leader to coordinate this activity.
Six Month Training Surveys
One of the key goals of N8 CIR is to increase the use of computationally intensive methods in academic research.
Suffrage Science
International Women’s Day 2021 marks the 10-year anniversary of the Engineering and Physical Science’s ‘Suffrage Science’ Scheme.
Sharing our Work
Communicating the work of N8 CIR, our researchers and colleagues is a vital part of this project.
EPCC GPU Hackathon 2021
GPU Hackathons have become an increasingly important training and development opportunity for researchers and academics. Participants are able to work with national labs, universities and industry leaders to accelerate their AI research or HPC codes.
New Bede Application Process
From Tuesday 19 January there will be a new application process for Bede, intended to speed up applications and the approval process.
Bede is open for new users
2021 Code Performance Series: From analysis to insight
Performance analysis is at the core of the development of exascale software – to understand why software performs (or not) is the basis of any informed improvement of that same code.
Sheffield NVIDIA GPU Hackathon on Bede
From 27-31 July 2020 the University of Sheffield RSE team, led by Dr Paul Richmond, ran an NVIDIA-sponsored GPU hackathon. In addition to NVIDIA's internal GPU Hackathon cluster the event took the opportunity to be test users of the new N8 Bede system.
New RSE Theme Leader
We're delighted to welcome Marion Weinzierl who is joining N8 CIR as our new research software engineering theme leader.
Training surveys for the new academic year
Over the last year N8 CIR has delivered a well-received programme of training for both the Digital Humanities and Digital Health research communities.
