These internships are available to students studying at any of the N8 universities: Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, and York. There are four available per institution and will run during term time alongside full-time study, where £2,500 per student is available to support their participation in this opportunity.
They are being made available through the Bede National HPC service, hosted by N8. We would like proposals for these internship projects from academics and RSEs that relate to digital research infrastructure investments, for example:
- Research projects working with academics aligned with the N8 themes – Digitial Health, Digitial Humanities, and Machine Learning (similar to the summer internship schemes).
- For those with interests aligned with the student cluster competition to broaden the application of their skills to new areas e.g., working with research software engineers to provide proof-of-concept support for access to HPC testbeds.
- Creation of an impact narrative regarding how DRI investments (such as Bede) are bringing benefits within organisations.
- Supporting the local HPC service with community engagement activities.
Internships are scheduled to start this term, and each student will be assigned a Research Technical Professional (RTP) to support them through their internship. There will also be opportunities to participate in community-building activities and attend events.
