The N8 CIR is pleased to offer internships that allow undergraduate students to develop their computational skills in a research environment.

We funded 22 8-week long summer internships to promote computational research to undergraduates across the N8 partnership that align with our three themes: Digital Health, Digital Humanities, and Machine Learning.

Jenelle Bankas is a computer science student at the University of Leeds.

Maddison is studying English Language and Literature at the University of Leeds.

Mysha Zaman is a second-year undergraduate studying for a BSc Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Leeds. She has a strong interest in mental health and is keen to better understand the challenges faced by individuals in mental health settings.

Tom is studying for a BSc Honours in Computer Science at Newcastle University. He joined the N8 CIR smmer internship after completing a 12-month placement with Lloyds Banking Group.

Zain gained a first class honours BSs in computer science form Newcastle University in 2025. He worked on the N8 CIR summer Internship during the summer before starting an MSc in artificial intelligence at the University of Edinburgh in September.

Daniela is studying Computer Science, with a year in industry, at Newcastle University.

Arthur Chai is a 4th year civil engineering student at Durham University. He intends to pursue a PhD in numerical geotechnical engineering. His 4th year undergraduate dissertation tutor recommended the internship to him as a way of developing his skills before starting the PhD.

Samuel graduated with a first class honours degree in Computer Science from the University of Durham. He completed this project following graduation.

Will Cook is a third year undergraduate studying computer science at Lancaster University. He is interested in technology and its practical application in the real world. Will enjoys solving problems in a logical and structured way.

Ben Hardy is a 2nd year undegraduate studying computer science at Lancaster University.

Teleri is a Zoology student at Lancaster University.

Hamzah is a second year computer science student at the University of LIverpool. He is passionate about software engineering, biotechnology and cybersecurity. As a Comp Sci Peer Mentor he enjoys taking the lead and encouraging collaboration to inspire success.

Zichen received a first class honours degree in Computer Science at the University of Liverpool in 2025 and completed his internship following graduation.

Al is a second year undergraduate studying Computer Science at the University of Liverpool.

Yufei is an undergraduate studying mathematics and statistics at The University of Manchester.

Manoj is a second-year CS student at the University of Manchester.

William is a Computer Science student at the University of Manchester.

Shreyun is an undergraduate on the BSc Financial Mathematics course at the University of Sheffield.

Kiran is studying Physics at the University of York.

We have received funding from EPSRC to support internships and increase interaction with the Bede Supercomputer within the N8 CIR community.

It is not only interns that benefit from our programme; supervisors also find it rewarding and productive for their research and personal development.

This September, our 2024 class of interns took to York to present their work over the summer to an audience of researchers from across the N8.

After an incredibly successful pilot, the N8 CIR Internship Programme will return in 2025.

On Friday 12 September, many of our summer interns came together at The National Centre for Early Music in York to showcase their work.

We are excited to announce that we have secured funding from EPSRC to run student internships through Michaelmas term to March 2026.
