Exploring digital tools for large and mixed data sets regarding undergraduate assessment, attainment and engagement
Project Overview
Using multiple sets of student engagement data (Moodle, Panopto lecture data, attendance and attainment) to model trends in students to try and find what a "well-engaged" student is and to be able to find patterns in their utilisation of other University tools to do this.
What were the key results of your research project?
- Data formats were widely varied and required lots of pre-processing before compatability was achieved for analysis
- Panopto data tracked weakly with attainment
- No link between Moodle and attainment (lack of proper data available)
How do you feel you have benefitted from completing this internship and has it made you consider future career paths?
Completing this internship helped me to develop both my technical and professional skills. Through the internship, I gained experience working with real educational data, and thinking about how engagement can be meaningfully measured. It improved my confidence in data handling, problem solving, and communicating complicated ideas more clearly. It made me interested in careers that combine data analysis, research and student support, such as those in educational analytics.
