Microsoft Azure Cloud Workshop - POSTPONED

Postponed

Room D45b, Sackville Street Building, Granby Row, Manchester, M1 3BU
25 Mar 2020 10 a.m. — 3:30 p.m.

A full-day workshop led by staff from the Microsoft Education Team covering high performance computing, high throughput computing, machine learning and cognitive service and deep learning.

The session will feature practical, hands-on activities within the Azure Cloud including:

  • Governing Research Services in Azure
  • High Performance Computing
  • High Throughput Computing
  • Machine Learning
  • Cognitive Service and Deep Learning

Workshop participants will be given access to Azure for the duration of the workshop so it is essential that you bring your own laptop or device with you.

Registration is FREE to those working or studying at one of the N8 Partnership universities but is on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. Lunch and refreshments are included.

High Performance Computing

In this workshop, you will set up and configure a scale-out media processing architecture using Azure Batch. You'll discover how to use High Performance Computing (scale out compute, embarrassingly parallel processing) techniques without having to write a lot of code, and learn how these tasks can be accomplished declaratively.

At the end of this workshop, you will have a deeper understanding of how to use the core capabilities of Azure Batch, understand how to author Custom Pool and Job templates, work with Job input and output files, author Batch auto-scale formulas, leverage Batch Explorer and the Azure Portal for management and monitoring, and use Marketplace applications to simplify common big compute tasks, such as 3D rendering.

Machine Learning

In this workshop, you will gain a better understanding of how to combine Azure Databricks with Azure Machine Learning to build, train and deploy the machine learning and deep learning models. You will learn how to use automated machine learning, model lifecycle management from training to deployment, and construct deep learning models for Natural Language Processing (NLP) in text classification and forecasting against time-series data. Finally, you’ll learn to compare data with PyTorch and Keras for deep learning.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to design a solution better understanding the capabilities of leveraging the Azure Machine Learning service and Azure Databricks.

Cognitive Services and Deep Learning

In this workshop, you will learn to combine both pre-built artificial intelligence (AI) in the form of various Cognitive Services, with custom AI in the form of services built and deployed with Azure Machine Learning service. You will learn to create intelligent solutions atop unstructured text data by designing and implementing a text analytics pipeline. You will also learn how to build a binary classifier using a recurrent neural network that can be used to classify the textual data. Also, you will learn how to deploy multiple kinds of predictive services using Azure Machine Learning and learn to integrate with the Computer Vision API and the Text Analytics API from Cognitive Services.

At the end of this workshop, you will be better able to present solutions leveraging Azure Machine Learning service, Azure Notebooks and Cognitive Services.
