Research infrastructure engineers work across academic domains to ensure that researchers, whatever their field, have access to the most appropriate equipment and technology for their work. This includes, but is not limited to:
- High-performance and high-throughput computing platforms
- High-performance networking
- Research data storage
- Remote access to research data and instruments
- Development of highly secure platforms for clinical data
- Cloud bursting – using AWS or Azure to increase compute capacity on demand
The capabilities of the RIEs at each N8 institution will vary. However, N8 CIR is working to create mechanisms to exchange ideas, skills, and experience across the N8 research partnership to ensure that academics at all institutions are able to benefit from the latest technology and innovations.
