Computer Vision for the Humanities

Slides, links and video from Daniel van Strien's computer vision workshop.

In April 2021 Daniel van Strien, a digital curator on the British Library's 'Living with Machines' project, delivered a workshop introducing computer vision to digital humanities researchers. The workshop provided:

  • An introduction to deep learning based computer vision methods or humanities research.
  • An overview of the steps involved in training a deep learning model.
  • Discussion of some of the specific considerations around using deep learning/computer vision for humanities research.
  • Help deciding whether deep learning might be a useful tool for you.
